Family Visa - Parent migration - Parent

Parents can migrate to Australia if they have a child in Australia who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Your child must be settled in Australia and sponsor you.

You must pass the balance of family test and meet health and character requirements.

Parents can apply for migration under one of 4 permanent visa categories:

  1. Contributory Parent
  2. Contributory Aged Parent
  3. Parent
  4. Aged Parent

For permanent categories an assurance of support is required.

Parents can also apply under 2 temporary classes:

  1. Contributory Parent (Temporary)
  2. Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary)

Temporary visas when granted are for 2 years and before the expiry of 2 years, the visa-holder can apply for the applicable permanent visa.
